What is Somatic
Counselling?

Sometimes traditional talk therapy can feel like you’re saying all the right things but not really feeling any different. This is because most approaches focus on the mind (the stories, thoughts and beliefs) but don’t always include what’s happening in the body.

Somatic Counselling takes a different route. It’s a grounded, body-based way of working that helps you feel well by reconnecting the two…mind and body.

In practice, that means slowing down enough to notice what your body is trying to tell you. Where tension gathers. Where you feel stuck or flat. Where old experiences might still be living quietly beneath the surface.

Somatic Counsellors often blend talking with simple body-based tools to help you gently understand and release what’s been held inside.

Together, we explore what you’re feeling, where it shows up physically, and why. By bringing curiosity and awareness to these patterns, they start to soften, creating space for more ease, clarity and energy in everyday life.

This kind of work can be especially supportive if you’re living with anxiety, burnout, chronic stress, emotional numbness, or moving through a big life change. It helps you shift what’s deeply rooted…not by analysing it but by finally letting your body be part of the conversation.

About me + the future team

It’s just me behind the scenes. I run the sessions, build the resources and manage the bookings but longer term, I plan to bring on other trusted Somatic Counsellors and therapists who share the same approach to making this work more accessible.

How stress and trauma get stuck in the body:

GIMME THE SCIENCE

We don’t just think our way through life. We feel it through our bodies.
Your nervous system is quietly doing its job all the time, scanning for safety, danger or anything in between.

It’s behind that sense of ease you get with some people and that tension you can’t quite explain with others.

Think about a moment you wanted to leave a room or felt your chest tighten in a conversation.

That wasn’t just a bad vibe, it was your body speaking up.

In the everyday rush (a tricky email, a sharp comment, a looming deadline) our bodies take the hit. The jaw clenches. The shoulders creep up. Our stomach knots. These aren’t random aches; they’re signals.

Your body’s way of saying: something is off

When we don’t get the space to feel and release these moments, they don’t disappear. They settle in. Stress, fear or heartbreak can get stored in the body long after the mind has tried to move on.

That’s why you might feel tense, anxious or wired, even when life looks fine on paper.

Your body isn’t against you.

It’s holding on to what never got to be felt, hoping you’ll listen

When you allow your mind to speak to your body transformative healing experiences take place

  • Release long-held stress and emotional tension

  • Understand your survival responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn)

  • Reconnect to your body, voice and boundaries

  • Move through grief, anxiety, burnout and / or trauma

  • Feel more alive, connected and at home within yourself

  • Build resilience and regulate your nervous system

  • Stop people-pleasing and start honouring what you need

  • Providing a space for you to connect with your bodies voice, if things in your life have been feeling off or low for a while

 FAQs

  • Somatic Counselling is a holistic approach that integrates the mind, body and emotions. It focuses on how our physical sensations and movements connect to our emotional and mental well-being. Through techniques like breathwork, body awareness and mindfulness, we work together initially with traditional talking therapy to release stored trauma, reduce stress and promote healing.

  • You are in control of what you share. My role is to support you at your own pace.

  • Somatic counselling is generally suitable for anyone who is open to exploring the mind-body connection. However, if you have specific medical or psychological conditions, it’s best to discuss this so we can determine the best approach for you.

  • Sessions are tailored to your needs and can include talking, guided body awareness exercises, breathwork, gentle movement and mindfulness practices. Each session is a collaborative process intuitively designed to help you feel safe and supported as we explore your experiences.

  • It's normal to feel unsure at first, especially if this is a new experience. I create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you can feel safe exploring these aspects. We go at a pace that feels right for you.
